Past Indefinite Tense

Past हमारी अधिकतर बातचीत Past Indefinite Tense के प्रयोग के बिना अधूरी होती है, फिर चाहे बात किसी के past के बारे में हो, कोई कहानी सुनानी हो या भूतकाल की घटनाओं का वर्णन करना हो, हमें Past Indefinite Tense की जरूरत पड़ती ही है। इसीलिए Past Indefinite Tense का सही से प्रयोग करना आना बहुत ही जरूरी है।

इस post में Past Indefinite Tense की पूरी जानकारी full detail में दी गई है Past Indefinite Tense के सभी rules तथा structures को examples तथा exercises के माध्यम से अच्छे से समझाया गया है ताकि आपको समझने में आसानी हो और आपके सारे doubts अच्छे से clear हो सके।

Past Indefinite Tense–Past Indefinite Tense को हिंदी में अनिश्चित भूतकाल या सामान्य भूतकाल (Simple Past Tense)भी कहा जाता है। Past Indefinite Tense का प्रयोग उन कार्यों के लिए किया जाता है जो बीते हुए समय में पूर्ण हुए हो अर्थात बीते हुए समय में घटी घटनाओं को व्यक्त करने के लिए इस Tense का प्रयोग किया जाता है। इस Tense से कार्यों के जारी रहने या होने के विषय में कुछ भी ज्ञात नहीं होता हैं।Past Indefinite Tense  के वाक्यों से कार्य का भूतकाल में पूरी तरह से समाप्त होने का बोध होता है।

जैसे- मैं कल बाज़ार गया।  

I went to market yesterday.

उसने सेब खाया।

He ate an apple.

मैंने पिछले सप्ताह एक पत्र लिखा था।

I wrote a letter last week.

Past Indefinite Tense की पहचान-

Past Indefinite Tense के हिंदी वाक्यों की क्रियाओं के अंत में ता था, ती थी, ते थे, आ, या, इ, ई, ऐ, ये, या था, इ थी, ऐ थे, ये थे आदि शब्द आते हैं।

Examples- उसने कल नया फोन खरीदा।

He bought a new phone yesterday.

आज सुबह मैंने खाना बनाया था।

I cooked food this morning.

Note- कर्ता सिर्फ सजीव शब्द ही नहीं होता, व्याकरण में निर्जीव शब्द भी कर्ता हो सकता है। जैसे, कक्षा शुरू हुई,घंटी बजती, सूर्य निकला आदि।

Examples-

सूर्य निकला।  The sun rose.

सूर्य डूबा।    The sun set.

घंटी बजती।   The bell rang.

कक्षा शुरू हुई।  The class started.

कक्षा खत्म हुई।  The class finished.

Past Indefinite Tense में प्रयोग की जाने वाली Main verb and Helping verb-

Main verb-Past Indefinite Tense के साधारण वाक्यों (affirmative Sentences) में मुख्य क्रिया की verb 2 का प्रयोग करते है जबकि नकारात्मक तथा प्रश्नवाचक वाक्यों ( negative and interrogative sentences) में verb 1 का प्रयोग करते है।

Helping verb-इस Tense में helping verb के रूप में Did का प्रयोग किया जाता है। परंतु Did का प्रयोग केवल negative and interrogative sentences में किया जाता है। Affirmative Sentences में Did का प्रयोग नहीं किया जाता है।

Note: इस Tense में सभी subjects के साथ helping verb के रूप में केवल Did का ही प्रयोग किया जाता है।

 

 

Structures of Sentences in Past Indefinite Tense :

1. Affirmative/Positive sentences of Past Indefinite Tense (सकारात्मक वाक्य)

Structure: Subject+V2+ object+ other words.

Examples-

मैं वहां गया। I went there.

मैं वहां गया था। I went there.

Note- ध्यान रखें कि मैं वहां गया था या मैं वहां गया दोनों ही Past Indefinite Tense के वाक्य हैं। इसी प्रकार के कुछ और वाक्यों को देखें-

उसने खाना खाया। He ate food.

उसने खाना खाया था। He ate food.

उन्होंने क्रिकेट खेला। They played cricket.

उन्होंने क्रिकेट खेला था। They played cricket.

वह आया। He came.

वह आया था।  He came.

ये सभी वाक्य Past Indefinite Tense के वाक्य हैं।

Some more examples-

वह 2020 में मरा। He died in 2020.

मैं उससे कल मिला था। I met him yesterday.

कल रात मैंने एक फिल्म देखी। I saw a movie last night.

पिछले हफ्ते उसने एक घर खरीदा। He purchased a house last week.

वह गया।/ वह गया था। He went.

वह रोज़ कई घंटे पढ़ता था।

He studied many hours everyday.

वह भी बाकी लोगों की तरह चुप रहा।

He also kept mum like the rest.

मुझे सबकुछ पता था।

I knew everything.

उन्होंने  हमारी बहुत मदद की।

They helped us a lot.

मैंने उसे सबकुछ बता दिया।

I told him everything.

उसने मुझसे एक प्रश्न किया।

He asked me a question.

मैं बहुत गहरी नींद सोया।

I slept very soundly.

उसने समय का सदुपयोग किया।

He made good use of time.

उनकी कार कीचड़ में फंस गई।

Their car stuck in the mud.

उसने चाय में गलती से नमक डाला।

He put salt in the tea by mistake.

तुमने मुझे धक्का दिया था।

You pushed me over.

Negative Sentences of Past Indefinite Tense

Negative Sentences में verb की second form का प्रयोग नहीं करते है। इसमें verb की first form तथा helping verb ‘did’ का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

Structure: Subject+ did not+verb1+ object+ other words.

उसने अपना पाठ याद नहीं किया।

He did not learn his lesson.

मैंने यह नहीं किया।

I didn’t do it.

तुमने गणित नहीं पढ़ा।

You did not study Mathematics.

राजा ने युद्ध नहीं किया।

The king did not fight the battle.

उसने हिमाचल में बर्फ से ढके हुए पहाड़ नहीं देखे।

He did not see mountains covered with snow in Himachal.

मैंने आपको पहचाना नहीं।

I didn’t recognise you.

आरव आज तुतलाया नहीं।

Aarav didn’t lisp today.

तुमने मेरे सवाल का जवाब नहीं दिया।

You didn’t answer my question.

मैं उसे नहीं जानता था।

I didn’t know him.

उसने मुझे पैसे नहीं दिए।

He didn’t give money to me.

उसने कुछ नहीं कहा।

He didn’t say anything.

मुझे यह नौकरी संयोग से नहीं मिली।

I didn’t get this job by chance.

आर्यन ने मुझसे बात नहीं की।

Aryan did not talk to me.

मीनू ने पानी नहीं पिया।

Meenu did not take water.

उसने दवाई नहीं ली।

He didn’t take medicine.

Note- Did+ not का short form didn’t होता है।

Interrogative Sentences of Past Indefinite Tense

Interrogative sentences दो तरह के होते हैं-

Yes-No type questions

Wh-words type interrogative sentences

1. Yes-No type questions- ये वो questions होते हैं जिनका जवाब हां या ना में दिया जा सकता हैं। इनकी शुरुआत helping verb से होती हैं।

Structure- Did+ subject+ verb 1+ object+ other words?

क्या वह कल दिल्ली गया था?

Did he go to Delhi yesterday?

क्या पापा ने कल तुम्हें पैसे दिए थे?

Did papa give you money yesterday?

क्या उसने कोई पत्र लिखा?

Did he write any letter?

क्या इस कुत्ते ने तुमपर आक्रमण किया?

Did this dog attack you?

क्या ममता ने दोबारा झूठ बोला?

Did Mamta tell a lie again?

क्या वे नाश्ते के लिए चना लाए थे?

Did they bring gram for breakfast?

क्या दृष्टि ने इस बच्चे को पीटा?

Wh-words type interrogative sentences

जिन वाक्यों की शुरुआत helping verb से ना होकर wh family word से होती है, वो wh-words type interrogative sentences कहलाते हैं।

Structure- Question word+ did+ subject+verb 1+object+ other words?

तुमने बाज़ार से क्या खरीदा?

What did you buy from the market?

तुमने कल किसको रुपए दिए थे?

Whom did you give money yesterday?

आज वह बस से कहां गया?

Where did he go by bus today?

तुमने उसके छोटे भाई को क्यों पीटा?

Why did you beat his younger brother?

तुम्हारे भाई ने कल नदी कैसे पार की?

How did your brother cross the river yesterday?

तुमने अपनी बहन को क्या दिया?

What did you give your sister?

तुमने अपनी मां के साथ किचन में क्या पकाया?

Note: WH family member में What, When, Why, Who, Where, How, Whom, Whose आदि को शामिल करते हैं।

Negative Interrogative Sentences

ये भी दो प्रकार के होते हैं-

1. Yes-No Type Negative Questions

इन वाक्यों में helping verb वाक्य के शुरू में आती है और ‘not’ subject के बाद।

Structure: Did+ sub.+not+verb 1+object+other words+?

क्या उसने कल तुम्हें आमंत्रित नहीं किया?

Did he not invite you yesterday?

क्या उसने तुम्हें इंग्लिश नहीं सिखाई?

Did he not teach you English?

क्या दादाजी बाज़ार नहीं गए?

Did grandfather not go to market?

क्या तुमने उसे नहीं पीटा था?

Did you not beat him?

क्या अध्यापक ने इतिहास का दूसरा पाठ नहीं पढ़ाया?

Did the teacher not teach the second history lesson?

क्या उसने 2 बजे तुम्हें फोन नहीं किया?

Didn’t he call you at 2?

क्या मैंने तुम्हारी मदद नहीं की?

क्या पिताजी ने आज सुबह अखबार नहीं पढ़ा?

Wh-word Type Negative Questions

इन वाक्यों की शुरुआत helping verb से नहीं बल्कि WH family word से होती है तथा subject के बाद ‘not’ का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

Structure: Wh-word+ did+ sub.+not+ verb 1+ object+other words+?

तुम वहां क्यों नहीं गए?

Why did you not go there?

वह आज स्कूल क्यों नहीं गयी?

Why did she not go to school today?

मैंने उसे क्या नहीं दिया?

What did I not give him?

उसने तुम्हें क्यों नहीं बुलाया?

Why did she not call you?

तुमने कौन-सी फिल्म नहीं देखी?

Which film did you not watch?

उसने भारतीय सेना का सम्मान क्यों नहीं किया?

Why did he not respect the Indian Army?

हमारे देश के लोगों ने यह स्वीकार क्यों नहीं किया?

Why did the people of our country not accept this?

साहिल ने इस घटना के बारे में क्या नहीं बताया?

तुमने उसे घर पर क्यों नहीं बुलाया?

Special Case- जब वाक्य में subject के बारे में ही पूछा जाता है यानि जब wh family member, subject को ही refer करें तो उस दशा में sentence structure affirmative sentence की ही तरह होता है। 

Structure-

Interrogative: <WH-sub.>+ verb 2 + object+ other words?

Neg. Int. :            <WH-sub.>+did+ not+ v1 + object+ other words?

तुम्हें अंग्रेजी कौन पढ़ाता था?/ तुम्हें अंग्रेजी किसने पढ़ाई?

Who taught you English?

यह किसने किया? Who did it?

तुम्हें यहां किसने बुलाया? Who called you here?

तुम्हारे साथ मुम्बई कौन गया था?

Who went to Mumbai with you?

दरवाजा किसने नहीं खटखटाया?

Who did not knock at the door?

तुमसे मिलने कौन नहीं आया?

Who did not come to meet you?

तुम्हारे मित्रों को यहां कौन लाया था?

Who brought your friends here?

उन्हें वहां कौन ले गया?

Who took them there?

यह तुमसे किसने कहा था?

Note-  अगर कोई वाक्य ता,ते,ती…..था,थे, थी इस formation के साथ बनाया गया है तो सबसे पहले हम यह देखेंगे कि इसमें प्रयोग की गई verb, action verb है या Non-action verb.

1.अगर वाक्य में  Non-action verb प्रयोग हुई है तो ऐसे वाक्यों को बनाने के लिए mostly Past Indefinite Tense का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

Examples-

वह सीमा को पसंद करता था।

He liked Seema.

हम इस चीज़ पर विश्वास करते थे।

We believed in this thing.

वह जाना चाहती थी।

She wanted to go.

वह तुमसे प्यार करता था।

He loved you.

मैं उसे दो साल से जानता था।

I knew him for 2 years.

2.अगर वाक्य में Action verb प्रयोग की गई है तो ऐसे वाक्यों को बनाने के लिए अधिकतर used to/would का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

वह मेरे साथ खेलता था।

He used to play with me.

मैं प्रतिदिन 5 किलोमीटर दौड़ता था।

I used to run 5 kilometres every day.

वह पहले यहां आता था।

He used to come here before.

वह झूठ बोला करती थी।

She used to tell a lie.

रेलगाड़ी पहले कोयले पर चलती थी।

A train used to run on coal before.

3.अगर बीते समय में किसी समय विशेष का reference दिया गया हो तो उस वाक्य को हम used to/would के अलावा Past Indefinite Tense में भी बना सकते है।

Examples-

1. हम उन दिनों हर संडे को मिलते थे।

We used to meet every Sunday those days.

We met every Sunday those days.

वह 2012 में मेरे साथ खेलता था।

He used to play with me in 2012.

He played with me in 2012.

वह हर महीने अपने माता-पिता से मिलने जाता था।

He used to go to meet his parents every month.

He went to meet his parents every month.

वह प्रतिदिन आठ घंटे काम करता था।

He used to work eight hours daily.

He worked eight hours daily.

वह रोज़ सुबह के समय चाय पिया करती थी।

She used to have tea every morning.

She drank tea every morning.

वह प्रतिदिन मेरे घर पर आता था।

He used to come to my house every day.

He came to my house every day.

Use of Past Indefinite Tense (Simple Past Tense) in Hindi

Past Indefinite Tense का प्रयोग भूतकाल के उन कार्यों या घटनाओं को व्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता है जो कि भूतकाल में ही समाप्त हो चुके हैं। इस टेंस के प्रयोग से संबंधित सभी नियम इस प्रकार है:-

1. भूतकाल में घटित होने वाले कार्यों के लिए Past Indefinite Tense का प्रयोग करते हैं। इसमें कोई कार्य या घटना पूरी तरह से समाप्त हो चुकी होती है।

To express the past actions

Examples-

They played cricket.

उन्होंने क्रिकेट खेला।

मैंने अपना मोबाइल बेच दिया।

I sold my mobile.

He scolded me without any reason.

उसने मुझे बिना बात के डांटा।

My father returned from Mumbai.

मेरे पापा मुम्बई से लौटे थे।

2.किसी निश्चित समय में घटित हुए या समाप्त हुए कार्यों का बोध कराने के लिए भी Past Indefinite Tense का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

To express the ended action at given time

1. He bought a new car yesterday.

उसने कल एक नयी कार खरीदी।

2. I completed my graduation in 2001.

मैंने 2001 में अपनी ग्रेजुएशन पूरी की।

The children went to park last week.

बच्चे पिछले सप्ताह पार्क गए।

3. भूतकाल की आदतों (habitual actions of past) को व्यक्त करने के लिए Past Indefinite Tense ( simple past tense) का प्रयोग करते हैं। बीते हुए समय के आदतन क्रिया को बताने के लिए often, daily, always, every day , every year etc. का प्रयोग किया जाता हैं।

Habitual Actions of the Past

Examples-

Sachin played cricket in his childhood.

सचिन अपने बचपन में क्रिकेट खेलता था।

I always brought mangoes from the market.

मैं हमेशा बाज़ार से आम लाता था।

She always came late.

वह हमेशा लेट आती थी।

My friend often invited me to dinner.

मेरा मित्र अक्सर मुझे डिनर पर आंमत्रित करता था।

Note- Past की habit को बतलाने के लिए used to तथा would का भी प्रयोग किया जाता है।

4. Past time की दो साथ-साथ होने वाली क्रिया को बताने के लिए Past Indefinite Tense का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

Example-

She cooked while the children played.

बच्चों के खेलने के दौरान वह खाना बनाती थी।

He studied while the other children slept.

दूसरे बच्चों के सोने के दौरान वह पढ़ता था।

5. जब Past time की कोई जारी रहने वाली क्रिया के बीच कोई दूसरी घटना घटी हो तो दूसरी घटना Past Indefinite Tense की होगी।

When I was sleeping, he came home.

जब मैं सो रही थी, वह घर आया।

I broke my leg while I was playing cricket.

क्रिकेट खेलते वक्त मेरी टांग टूट गई।

When she was playing in the park, her best friend arrived there.

जब वह पार्क में खेल रही थी, उसकी प्रिय मित्र वहां पहुंच गई।

6. वर्तमान समय के अधूरी desire/wish/condition को बतलाने के लिए if/ if only / As if/ I wish/ As though etc. के साथ भी Past Indefinite Tense का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

I wish I were a owner of this company.

काश मैं इस कम्पनी का मालिक होता।

2. He speaks as if he were the Prime Minister of the country.

वह ऐसे बात करता है मानो वह इस देश का प्रधानमंत्री हो।

3. If you worked hard, you would pass the examination.

यदि तुम मेहनत करते तो परीक्षा में पास हो जाते।

7. भूतकाल में एक समय विशेष में घटित हुई घटनाओं की श्रृंखला को बताने के लिए भी Past Indefinite Tense का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

A series of completed actions

Examples-

1. Last night, he entered my room, talked to me for a while and went away at once.

पिछली रात, वो मेरे कमरे में आया, मुझसे कुछ देर बातें की और तुरंत चला गया।

Yesterday, after the class, we closed the door, turned the music on, and started dancing like no one was there in the college.

कल, क्लास खत्म होने के बाद, हमने दरवाजा बंद किया, म्यूजिक ऑन किया और ऐसे नाचना शुरू कर दिया जैसे कि कॉलेज में कोई नहीं था।

Use of Adverbs in the Past Indefinite Tense

Past Indefinite Tense में नीचे दिए गए Adverbs of time का प्रयोग करते हैं।

Yesterday (कल), Ago (पहले), last morning ( पिछली सुबह), last night ( पिछली रात), last evening ( पिछली शाम), last day( पिछले दिन), last year ( पिछले साल), last month ( पिछले महीने), yesterday morning ( कल सुबह), yesterday evening ( कल शाम), in 2011 etc.

ऊपर दिए गए adverbs का प्रयोग नीचे दिए गए उदाहरणों से अच्छी तरह से समझा जा सकता है।

Time expressing adverbs in Past Indefinite Tense examples:

1. उसने कल नया मोबाइल खरीदा।

He bought a new mobile yesterday.

2. वह कल सुबह अपने गांव पैदल गया।

He went to his village on foot yesterday morning.

3. निशा ने दो दिन पहले मुझसे मुलाकात की।

Nisha met me two days ago.

4. आरव ने 2022 में नई कंपनी स्थापित की।

Aarav established a new company in 2022.

5. तुम्हरा छोटा भाई पिछले दिन विधालय नहीं गया।

Your younger brother did not go to school yesterday.

6. दादीजी ने पिछली सुबह रामायण नहीं पढ़ी।

Grandmother didn’t read the Ramayana last morning.

7. मेरे चाचा जी कल सुबह दिल्ली गए थे।

My uncle went to Delhi yesterday morning.

8. उसने पिछले महीने अपनी भैंस बेच दी।

He sold his buffalo last month.

9. वह पिछली रात को बीमार हो गया।

He fell ill last night.

10. मालिक ने नौकर को पिछले सप्ताह तनख्वाह दी।

The master gave the servant salary last week.

Note- Adverbs like just, recently, and never are placed just after the subject.

1. उसने बस उसे कॉल किया था।

He just called her.

2. मैं कभी अमेरिका नहीं गया।

I never went to America.

3. उसने हाल ही में नया घर खरीदा था।
